Experimental

Cy is constantly experimenting with the egg tempera medium; there is much to discover. The brilliantly white gesso background used for egg tempera is more reflective than paper or canvas, resulting in jewel-like colors when paint is applied, as well as interesting lighting possibilities. When one color is painted over another, a new color is created, sometimes of an unexpected hue. In contrast to watercolor painting, light colors can be applied over dark ones creating iridescent effects. Egg tempera has traditionally been combined with gold leaf in icon painting, and Cy has experimented with gold leafing in some of his work.
